oh coconuts. was born to create a little less chaos in the everyday.
My 8‑year‑old self was just a girl with a side pony and a dream, but the real beginning of oh coconuts. happened years later — on my kitchen bench in Noosa Heads — out of one simple frustration: beach bags that just didn’t work.
Every summer I’d buy the same $29.95 beach bag. It was big, cute, and felt like a win… until it wasn’t. The zip would break, the material would peel and crack, there were no pockets, and the bush turkeys could basically help themselves. And then came the moment that tipped me over the edge.
It was 2015. We were at Little Cove Beach. I was heavily pregnant, my two‑year‑old in tow, when he tipped the entire contents of my beach bag into the sand. A wave rolled in and I watched my car keys wash away into the beautiful blue Pacific Ocean. That was it. I needed something better.
The first design brief was simple: a chunky, good‑quality zip that wouldn’t quit.
Next came the hunt for the right material. During a home renovation, I used a leftover piece of house wrap to cover our sandpit when it rained. The boys spent hours trying to break it with shovels — and couldn’t. It was basically boy‑proof. I remember thinking, what IS this material… and how do I get more of it?
Years later, while working as a nurse through Covid, it finally clicked. All the PPE we were wearing was made from the same type of material. Durable. Water‑resistant. Tough enough for hospitals… and definitely tough enough for family life.
In 2024, oh coconuts. finally launched — with one purpose: to make everyday life a little easier, more organised, and a lot less chaotic.
We started with wet | dry bags for sandy rashies, wet swimmers, snacks, and essentials. Then came backpacks that fold into themselves, and beach bags with pockets and a double top zip — the things I had been searching for but could never find.
